The Gospel reading for today is the familiar "Parable of The Good Samaritan." At Mass this morning during his homily, our priest reminded us that we are prodigal children, on our way home to the Father. I couldn't help thinking of this song, "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot". The lyrics seem to work in harmony with today's parable of estrangement and reunion, redemption and, we hope and pray, the welcome awaiting God's prodigal children at heaven's gate. Catholics often pray for a good death. Could we not also pray near the end of our journey home for a sweet chariot to take us to our Father's house?
